The following chart only tells part of the story (both based on the specific demographics of this site and for the fact that XP is off the chart) and is really only offered up for perspective on what Apple is up against in their battle with Microsoft for OS dominance. Apple has made healthy gains in the OS market share race over the past few years, so keep that in mind when you look at the following chart.
That said, it is interesting to see the much maligned Vista zooming past Mac OS over the past few months. Apple fans, think about how tough Apple's job is here. If the tech press is to be believed, Vista is an abject failure*, but yet… in September, this site saw nearly three times the number of Vista visitors versus overall Mac OS visitors.
For all the gains, there's still a long way to go.

As a note, the spikes in March are due to landing on the home page of Slashdot. Lots of Apple and Linux heads on Slashdot.

*For full disclosure's sake I'm actually a regular Vista user and quite like it (madness, I know) and I just picked up a Dell mini running Ubuntu.
I actually worked on this project for over a year, but at the end of the day the only work I did that made it into production was the JavaScript that runs the thing- there's some tricky interaction with Flash and a ton of custom Google Analytics scripting.
Big ups to Ryan for his excellent HTML and CSS work while I was otherwise occupied.

My MySpace and Twitter pages have been redesigned.
The Twitter page will look best at larger screen resolutions. I basically designed it so it would look good on my laptop, so it suffers at 1024.
I know you guys were thinking those pages were looking kind of stale, so I freshened them up.
With the emphasis on FRESH of course.
(OH SNAP!)
I've been doing a lot of design recently. That's a good thing as I've really got to get myself revved up enough to actually sit down and redesign DrunkenFist.com. It's a scary proposition, redesigning a site that has more than met all my expectations in the two years it's been live in this current incarnation. Still, a ten year anniversary only happens once and I'd be depressed if I wasn't able to put together something new for that momentous occasion.
I just hope it doesn't suck.
So, here it is. Strung out over the better part of two years, this project turned out to be a ton of fun. Each of these quick digital sketches presented a cool opportunity to just draw with no worries about the finished product beyond answering the simple question- "was that sketch fun to do?"

I'll follow up soon with the recap post.

Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
The only reason I rented Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle a few weeks back is because of seeing the trailer for this, the sequel. The scenes on the plane looked pretty funny and the whole set-up seemed like a no-brainer, so my curiosity was piqued.
Anyway, I wanted to see the sequel, but I didn't want to jump right in without having seen the original (even with a series like this I was worried I might not get some jokes and what-have-you without seeing the first film), so I rented Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. It almost felt like a chore. I thought I'd make it through the first one and then get to the main course, Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay.
Well, it doesn't happen all that often, but my expectations in this situation were basically flat out wrong. The first movie is about 75% funnier than the sequel.
While the first film had a riotous pace that assaulted the senses for its entire running time, the sequel goes through far too many down periods and none of the highs compare to the many comedy highlights of the first. Even scenes that should have been comedy gold felt flat here. It's kind of funny at times, but is nowhere near as good as the original.
Bummer.

A previously unknown work by 17th-century painter Pieter Brueghel the Younger has been discovered in an elderly woman's possessions, a Dutch art television program announced yesterday.

The thing about this that excites me, just beyond the basic plot (which is fantastic), is that it reminds me that there are missing Vermeers out there. Somewhere, in some Dutch attic, is another Vermeer masterpiece just waiting to be discovered. That would be exciting. Personally, my head might explode.
Seriously. My head just might explode. Look at how geeked out I am in front of Woman Holding a Balance.

It's been pretty visual around here lately.
I guess I'll keep at it.

One to go.
Tomorrow.
Then the recap post.
And then it's done.

Always fun to do.
I'm wondering how the show went. I wasn't able to go, so I'm hoping it was a success.
